I’m New

What you need to know about Covell Community Church on your first visit.

I’m New…

Let’s face it, those two words, “I’m New“, can create feelings of apprehension and anxiety.  Oftentimes, we equate those words to our first day at a new school, a new job, and even a first visit to a local church.  To help alleviate those anxious moments, we have attempted to answer some of “those questions” that you might find yourself asking as we try to eliminate that feeling of newness and replace it with a sense of comfort and coziness.  Let’s tackle some of “those questions”:

How do I get there?

Admittedly, we are not easy to find.  Even Charles Lindbergh, the famous air mail pilot who once flew non-stop from New York to Paris and gained hero status from doing this, found Covell by “accident”.  His November 3, 1926 crash just outside of Covell put this little community on the map, but it did not make it any easier to find. Because the town of Covell has no zip code, landing strip, or gas station, we thought that we should tell you that it is located along East 1000 North Road, about seven miles west of downtown Bloomington, and six miles east of Stanford.  Our address is 10715 Church St, Bloomington, IL 61705; and if you are using a mobile device you can get directions by searching “Covell Community Church”.

Where do I park?

All attendees are encouraged to park in the lots located to the front and side of the building.

When do you meet?

Currently, Covell Community Church offers one 75-minute service on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am.  Adult Bible Study, a chronological and attendee-interactive 75-minute event, gathers at 6:30 pm on Wednesday evenings.

What should I expect?

You can expect a worship experience that is focused solely on the teaching and preaching of the Word of God, the singing of traditional church hymns and contemporary Christian hits, and ample time for prayer and praise by caring people who prioritize their Savior and others over themselves and the love for the Word over the love of the world.

What should I wear?

We believe that your dress comfort is more important than any dress code.  At Covell Community Church, “casual” is most common, but we have seen suits, shorts, t-shirts, skirts, jeans, jerseys, and boots.  Long story short, if it’s comfortable, it’s wearable. We believe that our focus should be on Jesus and not how we dress.

What about my kids?

You love them, Jesus loves them, and so do we!  For this reason, we have created several Sunday morning options for kids of all ages.  From our fully staffed nursery to our Children’s Church program that is available for grades preschool through 1st grade, your children will be loved, taught, and cared for in a safe environment that provides sound Biblical teaching, fun activities, and the opportunity to grow in a relationship with Jesus Christ.  We believe that today’s church children will be tomorrow’s church leaders, and it is our goal to provide discipleship and mentorship to these important individuals.

What do you believe?

We have provided a tab that will assist in answering this all-important question.  When clicked, you will see our Statement of Faith and Mission Statement, but we are always reminded that when we believe in Jesus, love Jesus, and live for Jesus we will be asked to make a statement.  We believe that this statement is made daily, Biblically, Spiritually, and lovingly to every person that we meet and see. We believe that our family members, co-workers, friends, enemies, classmates, and neighbors should always see Jesus in us.  How do we accomplish this? We believe that we must build a relationship with Jesus through the learning of His Word, the emulation of our Lord, and the evangelization of the world.

Will I have to say anything, sign anything, give anything, or be singled out in any way?

The answers are as follows:  No, No, No, and Maybe. Although it is easy to understand the word “no”, let us explain the word “maybe”.  Because we are a church that cares, we are oftentimes guilty of displaying that care, concern, and love to our visitors and new attendees.  We want to get to know you, and thus we will likely spend time with you before and after the service. Our goal is that you will feel cared for, cared about, and loved; and we believe that the following of these Biblical mandates have allowed Covell Community Church to survive and thrive for 100+ years.

While this short snippet might have addressed some of your questions, we are aware that there will likely be more.  We believe that asking questions and gathering information is one of the most rewarding parts of our Christian walk, and thus we encourage you to ask us anything that we have not addressed.  Covell Community Church is a home to humble people who readily admit that we will always need to learn more, lead more, and love more to grow more.
