COMMISSION STATEMENT
Covell Community Church is a Christ-centered church that cares for our congregation and our communities by glorifying the Lord, growing in His Word, discipling His people, and evangelizing the world, carefully and obediently, all for His praise and glory.
STATEMENT OF FAITH
Covell Community Church is an independent, evangelical, non-denominational church that exposits the preaching and teaching of God’s Holy Word through its affirmation and adherence of the 16th century five SOLAS: including Sola Gratia (grace alone), Sola Fide (faith alone), Sola Christus (Christ alone), Sola Scriptura(Scripture alone), Soli Deo Gloria (to the glory of God alone). Thus, Covell Community Church affirms that salvation comes by grace alone through faith alone by Christ alone according to Scripture alone to the glory of God alone, and it is these five Biblical and foundational principles that form the nucleus of our evangelical faith.
STATEMENTS OF BELIEF
-
We believe, teach, and preach that the Bible is the inerrant Word of the Living God, the perfect and infallible rule of faith and life, and the ultimate authority in all matters and in all things. (Psalm 12:6, 19; Proverbs 30:5; John 1:1; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
-
We believe, teach, and preach that the 66 canonical books of the Bible (39 Old Testament books / 27 New Testament books) are divinely breathed out by God and are thus the sole source for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness according to God’s will and may not be added to or deleted from. (Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 5:17-18; Luke 11:28, 24:27; Acts 20:32; Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Revelation 22:18-20)
-
We believe, teach, and preach that the one living, true, sovereign God eternally exists in three Persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, equal in deity and fully deserving of our exultation and obedience. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 45:21-22; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; John 14:24-26; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 1:16-18)
-
We believe, preach, and teach the creation of all things was by the direct work of the triune Godhead, who by His own will and for His own glory made everything. God created man, male and female, in His own image and with immortal souls to love, serve, and fellowship with Him eternally. (Genesis 1-2; Exodus 20:11; Nehemiah 9:6; Psalm 33:6, 145:9; Isaiah 40:28, 42:5; Jeremiah 32:17; John 1:3; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:15-16)
-
We believe, preach, and teach that man’s primary purpose for existence is to glorify God and submit to His sovereign will. (Psalm 86:12, 115:1; Isaiah 42:8, 43:6-7; Matthew 5:16; Luke 22:41-42; 1 Corinthians 6:20, 10:31; James 4:7; Revelation 4:11)
-
We believe, preach, and teach that Satan, the great opposer, accuser, tempter, liar, and adversary of God and man, is a spirit-being originally created as an angel who fell from his privileged position due to pride and ambition sometime before the fall of man. Upon his fall, Satan persuaded one-third of the angels, known as demons, to join him in his rebellion in carrying out his wicked deeds in his ultimate attempt to defeat God’s Kingdom. (Genesis 3:1; Job 1:6-22, 2:1-8; Isaiah 14:12-17; Ezekiel 28:11-19; Zechariah 3:1-2; Matthew 4:1-11, 12:22,43-45; Mark 5:1-20; Luke 10:18; John 8:44; Ephesians 6:10-13; James 2:19; 1 Peter 5:8; 2 Peter 2:4-10; 1 John 3:8; Revelation 12:7-9, 20:1-10)
-
We believe, preach, and teach that Adam and Eve sinned against God through sinful disobedience, thus losing their innocence, incurring the wrath of God and the penalty of physical and spiritual death through their corruptible sin nature that has been passed to all mankind (who continues to sin by act and will while being unable to save oneself from this hopeless condition). (Genesis 3; Psalm 14:1-3; Jeremiah 17:9; Acts 4:12; Romans 1:18-32, 3:9-18,23, 5:12-21; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5)
-
We believe, preach, and teach that through grace and love, God reaches down to sinful men, who deserve eternal punishment in Hell, and willfully and joyfully saves from sin and death all who come to Him through faith in Jesus Christ. (John 3:16-18, 5:21, 6:36-40,44; Romans 5:6-8; 2 Timothy 1:9)
-
We believe, preach, and teach that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God and the second person of the Trinity who is both God and man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, suffered, bled, and died on the cross for the sins of His people, making reconciliation unto God and full atonement for all sin through His propitiatory sacrifice, rose bodily from the tomb and ascended into Heaven, is our Redeemer, Advocate, Intercessor, and High Priest for saved man, and is visibly coming to earth again as final Judge of all mankind. (Isaiah 7:14, 9:6, 53:5; Matthew 1:18-25, 26:28, 28:1-10; Luke 1:31-38, 23, 24:50-51; John 1:1-18, 10:30, 14:3, 17:5; Acts 1:9,11; Romans 5:10-11, 8:34; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21; Colossians 2:9; Hebrews 4:14-16, 9:12; 1 Peter 2:22,24; 1 John 2:1, 3:5; Revelation 22:12)
-
We believe, preach, and teach that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, proceeding from the Father and Son, and is sovereignly active in creation, the incarnation, the inspired, infallible written revelation, and the work of salvation. God’s Spirit is ever present and efficiently active in and with the Church of Jesus Christ, convicting the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, regenerating the hearts of those who respond in repentance and faith, purifying and sanctifying the hearts of fully consecrated believers while equipping them with gifts for duty and service, and guiding them into all truth as He glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. (Genesis 1:1-2; Ezekiel 6:26-27; Psalm 51:10-11; Joel 2:28-29; Matthew 1:18, 28:18-20; John 3:3-8, 15:26, 16:7-15; Romans 3:10-11, 8:28-30, 12:3-8, 15:16; 1 Corinthians 1:26, 6:11, 12:4-31; Ephesians 2:18-22; 2 Timothy 1:8-11; Titus 3:5-7; 1 Peter 1:1-2; 2 Peter 1:21)
-
We believe, preach, and teach that salvation is wholly of God and is freely offered to all humanity. However, it is only received by those who confess Jesus’ Lordship and resurrection and who repent of their sins, by the grace of Almighty God, through faith in Jesus Christ, and in the convicting power of the Holy Spirit. Thus, salvation is only by the grace of God and Jesus Christ’s redemptive work through the shedding of His blood and our faith in Him (apart from our produced works or professed merits) by the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit. (John 3:3-8, 16:8; Acts 2:36-38, 3:19, 11:18; Romans 8:29-30, 10:9-10; 2 Corinthians 7:10; Ephesians 1:3-14, 2:8-10; Titus 2:11-14; 2 Peter 3:9)
-
We believe, preach, and teach that this gracious gift of salvation by God is fully realized through His: justification (the act in which He declares righteous those who, through faith in Christ, repent of their sins); sanctification (the act in which He sets apart the believer positionally unto holiness and progressively through the work of the Holy Spirit); glorification (the act in which He transforms saved man through the final removal of sin into the eternal state to be like Him); and adoption (the act of God in which the Christian is forever brought into the family of God as a privileged, provided-for child and eternal heir). (John 1:12-13, 17:17-19; Acts 20:32, 26:16-18; Romans 3:21-26, 4:1-8, 6:19-22, 8:14-17,20-30,33; 1 Corinthians 1:2,30-31, 6:11; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Galatians 2:15-16, 4:4-6; Ephesians 1:3-14, 2:8-9, 5:25-27; Philippians 3:20-21; Colossians 3:4; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-6, 5:23; 2 Thessalonians 2:13; Hebrews 10:10, 13:12)
-
We believe, preach, and teach in Lordship Salvation and that God’s sovereignty requires saved humanity to humbly submit themselves to the Lord Jesus Christ in righteous obedience, willing subjection, and worldly separation, thus denying the worldly concept of easy believism and rather fulfilling God’s demand for discipleship as we are being conformed to live holy, obedient lives as detailed in God’s Word through the example of our Lord. (Matthew 22:37-40; Luke 14:25-33; Romans 10:9-10, 14:8; 1 Corinthians 10:26; Colossians 3:23-24; Revelation 19:16)
-
We believe, preach, and teach the Biblical basis of marriage is illustrative and exemplary of Christ’s relationship with His Bride, which is the Church, and is thus sanctioned by God through the joining of one man and one woman as depicted in Scripture through Holy covenantal union in the Lord. (Genesis 2:18-24; Proverbs 18:22; Matthew 19:4-6; 1 Corinthians 7:1-16,39; Ephesians 5:22-33; Colossians 3:18-19; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Peter 3:1-7)
-
We believe, preach, and teach that the main mission of born-again Christians is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, to love our neighbors above ourselves, and to evangelize the lost while equipping them in faith and the truth of our Lord through the teaching and preaching of His Word. (Deuteronomy 6:4-7; Psalm 105:1; Matthew 9:37-38, 22:37-40, 28:18-20; Mark 12:29-31, 16:15; John 13:35; Acts 1:8, 20:24; Romans 1:16, 10:17; Ephesians 4:1-16; 2 Timothy 2:15, 3:16-17, 4:1-5; Hebrews 13:7,20-21; 1 Peter 3:15-16)
-
We believe, preach, and teach that Christians are to be active, obedient, diligent attendees in the local church (which is representative of Christ’s Body) for growth in faith, according to God’s Word, for the utilization of one’s gifts through God’s Spirit, and for the serving and edification of God’s family within Christ’s Body. (Acts 2:42-47; Romans 14:19; 2 Corinthians 8:24; Ephesians 4:1-16,29, 5:22-30; 1 Thessalonians 5:11; 2 Thessalonians 1:3-4; Hebrews 10:24-25; 1 Peter 4:8-11; 2 Peter 3:18)
-
We believe, preach, and teach that the God-given ordinances of water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are reserved for born-again Christians, not for unbelievers, and are outward signs by which we are known as being in Christ so that we may grow in grace as Christ’s Body, the Church. (Matthew 3:13-17, 28:19-20; Luke 22:19-20; Acts 2:38-41, 8:26-40; 1 Corinthians 10:15-17,21, 11:23-34; 2 Corinthians 5:17)
-
We believe, preach, and teach that God sovereignly and willingly imparts His Spiritual gifts to all believers to serve and edify the Body of Christ. (Matthew 20:25-28; John 13:12-14; Acts 2; Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12, 13:8-9, 14; Galatians 5:13-14; Philippians 2:1-11; 1 Peter 4:8-11)
-
We believe, preach, and teach that born-again Christians may at times backslide and sin, grieving the Holy Spirit, but God chastens and disciplines His children and restores them to confession and repentance so that they may never lose their salvation but rather are kept to persevere by God’s power. (Psalm 51:12, 94:12-15; Proverbs 3:11-12; Matthew 4:17; Luke 21:29; John 10:28-29; Acts 11:18; Romans 3:21-26, 5:12-21, 7:14-25, 8:30-39, 11:29; 2 Corinthians 7:10; Ephesians 4:30, 5:1; Colossians 1:21-23; Hebrews 12:1-17; 1 Peter 5:10; 2 Peter 3:9; 1 John 1:5-10, 2:1-6; Jude 1:24-25; Revelation 2:4-5, 3:19)
-
We believe, preach, and teach that there will be a resurrection and judgment of the saved and of the lost at Jesus’ Second Coming as foretold in Scripture; wherein unrepentant and unsaved sinners will be punished eternally in hell, according to God’s perfect justice, while believers will live eternally in God’s glorious presence in heaven, according to God’s sovereign grace and mercy. (Matthew 10:28, 13:49-50, 16:27, 25:31-46; John 5:25-29, 14:1-3; Romans 14:10-12; 1 Corinthians 15; 2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, 5:2; Hebrews 9:27-28; Revelation 20:11-15)
